East
One church, many sites.
Project info —
Formerly known as STN (St Thomas Norwich), East Church is a large and growing church, formed of multiple parishes across the city of Norwich.

Originally named after the churches initial location in which it was founded in 2013. Additional sites were subsequently added to the STN network, St Alban (2015) and St Barnabas (2017), alongside the Mitre café (2016).

With the church outgrowing it’s original acronym, an extensive naming exercise was carried out in a bid to re-position the organisation in line with its growth.

The concept at the heart of the identity centres on an observation that each church within the network is named after a Saint. The ‘ST’ abbreviation found within the word EAST provides each site with its own autonomy, whilst also unifying at the same time.

The typographic solution for the wordmark features characters that are crafted to reference typography found within each of the buildings stained glass windows. These characters are paired with sans serif type to provide a contrast in styles, aknowledging each buildings history.
A design system has been introduced that allows each church the flexibility to take ownership of its communications, whilst also being united under the EAST banner. As part of the system’s hierarchy, graphic representations of each sites feature windows are used as symbols, alongside additional icons that also represent the organisations other commercial entities, the Mitre café and desk hire workspaces.
